About

A Beautiful Waste of Time

My name is René Konings, and I am on an artistic journey where urban traces, forgotten materials, and stories from the urban landscape are given new life through creative reuse.

In my artistic practice, I have developed a fascination for the overlooked: remnants of posters, fragments of paint, worn surfaces, and objects that have long lost their original function. Where others see waste, I see potential. Each work I create is an exploration of time, transformation, and the beauty that emerges when something abandoned is given new meaning.

It is a way of telling stories. Stories about the cities we inhabit, the people who leave their marks, and the materials that carry memories of the past. Through layered accumulations of collected materials, urban fragments, and craftsmanship, I build works that balance the raw urbanity of the street with the poetic, the transient, and the enduring.

Through my work, I seek to challenge how we perceive value, consumption, and sustainability. Each piece is made from materials that have already lived a life, and through transformation are given the opportunity to tell a new story. In this way, the work becomes both a tribute to the hidden layers of society and a reminder that beauty is often found where we least expect it.

I look forward to inviting you into this world of reuse, material storytelling, and urban discovery.
